In 2020, after decades of leadership, our founder, Mikel, passed the torch to his youngest son, Joel Simon, who continues the family tradition of quality craftsmanship and customer-first service. Joel leads with over 20 years of hands-on field experience and a deep understanding of both modern and traditional awning systems.

Mikel Simon founded Atlanta Awning Cleaners in 1992 after recognizing a growing need in North Georgia for a dependable, full-service awning maintenance company. Determined to build a business rooted in quality and care, Mikel spent months learning directly from seasoned professionals in the industry, developing the hands-on skills and techniques that would define the company’s early success.

In the beginning, educating customers was just as important as the cleaning itself. Mikel personally took time with each client to explain the value of regular awning cleaning and sealing, establishing trust and long-term relationships that remain today.

Driven by a constant desire to improve the cleaning process, Mikel focused on innovation from the start. One of his earliest breakthroughs came in the form of a retired Bell South bucket truck, an unexpected find that gave the business a professional edge and allowed the team to handle even the most challenging jobs safely and efficiently. In 2003, the original truck was retired and replaced with a modern lift-equipped model to further enhance service capabilities.

After nearly three decades of leading the company with integrity and vision, Mikel retired in 2020, proudly passing the leadership torch to his youngest son, Joel. His legacy lives on in the company’s commitment to doing the job right the first time, a philosophy summed up in his favorite quote:

Joel Simon began his career with Atlanta Awning Cleaners in 2002, working full-time as a cleaning specialist under the guidance of his father, the company’s founder. From day one, he learned that properly restoring an awning isn’t a rushed task, it is a craft that requires patience, care, and deep attention to detail.

Over the past two decades, Joel has mastered every aspect of awning maintenance, including cleaning, sealing, and repairs. His hands-on experience across thousands of residential and commercial properties throughout Georgia has shaped the company’s reputation for quality and reliability.

Joel played a key role in developing the company’s proprietary cleaning processes, including the adoption of Formula 815MX—a professional-grade cleaner now central to Atlanta Awning Cleaners' results-driven approach.

Today, Joel leads the company with a commitment to innovation and customer service. He continues to modernize operations through technology, digital accessibility, and enhanced service efficiency, while always staying true to the company’s founding values: do the job right the first time and always put the customer first.
